The many bridges of  the Arno River. Ponte Santa Trinita and Ponte alle Grazie , but nothing compares to the Ponte Vecchio!

Ponte Vecchio , meaning old bridge, is rich in history . It is the oldest bridge in Florence and is  home to many Jewelry Shops.

The bridge was built in 1565 by Giorgio Vasari, commissioned by Cosimo I de Medici. The goldsmiths, however, only came in 1593 on the bridge, before the shops were located here, the butchers and tanners  used the river to dispose of their waste.

It is the only bridge not destroyed during World War II .
